New Distillery Opening in Downtown San Antonio on Houston Street in January
New distillery, Devils River, opening in downtown San Antonio on Houston Street in January
Whiskey takes time to age properly, and the same can be said of the building in which it’s distilled. After announcing in 2018 that the Devils River Distillery was opening a new home in downtown San Antonio inside the Burns Building on Houston Street, a spokesperson from the company said that it will open in January.
The working distillery will also be the headquarters for Devils River and will feature a rooftop venue with live music, a full program of Prohibition-era cocktails and a kitchen that will serve appetizers and other items on its rotating menu inside the tasting room.
“The opening of Devils River Distillery will allow us to be completely produced, distilled, aged and bottled in San Antonio,” said Mike Cameron, co-founder and head distiller, in a release. “It’s a feat we are most proud of.”
Cameron was a co-founder of Rebecca Creek Distillery and started Devils River in 2017. The name is derived from the actual Devils River in Southwest Texas, where the water used to distill the whiskey is sourced. The whiskey is widely available, distributed in 29 states.
The facility also will feature a gift shop selling bottles of whiskey as well as other merchandise. Tours of the distillery also will be regularly offered.
Devils River will be the third downtown San Antonio distillery upon opening, joining Artisan on Alamo, at 315 Eighth St. and Maverick Whiskey at 115 Broadway inside the former Lockwood Bank building.
